Longview, WA–– Commission Vice-President Bob Baagason has submitted his formal resignation from the Port of Longview Board of Commissioners, effective September 30, 2018. Bagaason was elected to represent the 3rd Commission district in the 2007 general election – serving just shy of two full terms in office.

“Over the past ten-plus years, we accomplished a lot - including materially increasing the Port’s revenue position with our cutting edge grain terminal, improving the Port’s economic impact within the community and significantly reducing property taxes to residents of the Port District,” said Bagaason. “It is a lasting legacy that I am proud to have had a role in.”

“For over a decade, Commissioner Bagaason has provided direction that has led to the Port’s overwhelming success,” said Port Chief Executive Officer Norm Krehbiel. “The staff and I thank him for his dedication, friendship and leadership over the years. “

Bagaason’s current term is set to expire at the end of 2019.  Port officials will review the process for filling this vacancy at an upcoming Commission meeting. The Port Commission has 90 days from the effective date to appoint a replacement.

The Board of Commissioners is comprised of three elected members representing the citizens of the Port district. Commissioners serve six-year terms and set governing policy for the Port of Longview.
