Brown-Strauss Steel Building

Brown-Strauss Steel, a Denver based steel company, moved its Northwest operations to the Port of Longview in June, 2001.

In order to accommodate the company's warehouse needs, the Port constructed a 39,000 square foot warehouse building and a rail spur.

The $1.35 million warehouse was funded by a $1 million loan from the state Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB). CERB provides low-interest loans or, in unique circumstances grants, to local governments to help finance the construction of public facility projects required by private sector expansions and job creations,

The location of Brown-Strass Steel was a significant development in the Port's decade-long effort to diversity away from log exports. It also fit well with the Port's strategy of siting facilities that take advantage of its marine facilities.

The building was constructed on a 15-acre former log handling yard that hadn't been used for two years. In November of 2003, Brown-Strauss moved their regional sales staff to Longview.  The sales staff now occupies 1188 sq. ft. of newly renovated office space.

Brown-Strauss Steel is a distributor of structural steel and pipe products. The Longview branch employs 22 workers.
