International Way

"This new roadway is the finishing touch on what has become one of the West Coast's prime marine industrial parks."
Ken O'Hollaren, Executive Director, Port of Longview

International Way is the main roadway accessing the Port of Longview's industrial park. It provides direct access to the West Park industrial site, the White House, and the marine facilities.

Improvements to International Way include widening and resurfacing. New curbs and water and sewer lines have been added.

The project was funded through a Rural Economic Vitality Program grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation. In partnership with Cowlitz County the project was also financed with Road Improvement District (RID) and Local Improvement District (LID) funds.

The Improvements to International Way are part of the Port's overall plan to improve its industrial sites and locate new and expanding industrial and manufacturing businesses.

International Way project completion

International Way leads to the White House, the former Long-Bell Lumber Company administration building built in 1937 to house the management operations of the largest lumber mill in the world (at that time), a mill that created the city of Longview in 1923.

Before improving International Way, the Port partnered with the Washington State University Cooperative Master Gardener Foundation to prune and transplant a series of roses and plum trees lining the roadway. These plants are believed to have been planted by the Long-Bell Lumber Company in the 1930's. The project was embraced by the community and named the Heritage Rose Project.
