EXPORT GRAIN TERMINAL SELECTS LONGVIEW
In June 2009, the Port of Longview signed a long term property lease welcoming the first export grain terminal constructed in the United States in more than 25 years.
Export Grain Terminal (EGT) selected the Port of Longview based on its dynamic combination of river, rail and real estate. The Port's available waterfront property on the deep-draft Columbia River and dedicated rail corridor serviced by both major rail lines fulfilled EGT's site selection criteria.
Construction of the termial is underway and expected to be operational for the fall 2011 harvest.
BENEFITS DELIVERED TO THE COMMUNITY
The export terminal will generate significant benefits for the Port community. The $200 million dollar, privately funded export terminal is injecting the area with much needed jobs and tax revenue.
With a construction phase of nearly two years, the project will generate more than 200 construction jobs and benefits for local vendors and suppliers. Upon completion, the terminal will employ approximately 50 full time employees and generate 35 more jobs associated with the additional 200 vessels and 650 unit trains servicing the facility annually.
Upon completion and assessment, the terminal will generate up to $2 million dollars in tax revenue to fund local government, schools and improvements to the area.
