The Star Java is operated by Star Shipping of Bergen, Norway and represented by General Steamship Corporation of Portland, Oregon. It arrived at the Port on December 17, 2006 to discharge a shipment of wind tower sections for Siemens Power Generation.
Port of Longview staff presented a commemorative plaque to Captain Edilberto F. Cruz, Master of the Star Java. The Port was represented by Doug Averett, Director of Terminal Operations; Valerie Harris, Manager of Business Development and Marie Wise, Communications and Public Affairs Manager.
The Star Java was built by Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., in Tamano, Japan. According to Captain Cruz, the voyage from Pohang, Korea to Longview took 12 days.
A general cargo vessel, the 44,000 deadweight ton Star Java is 649.6 feet long, carries two 68 ton gantry cranes, and has eleven cargo holds.
