Port of Longview Exhibits at Windpower 2006 Conference

The Port of Longview exhibited at the Windpower 2006 Conference and Exhibition held on June 4 - 7 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The conference is sponsored each year by the American Wind Energy Association, of which the Port is a member. It brings together leading wind energy professionals from around the world for three days of conference sessions and an interactive trade show where exhibitors showcase their products and services. It is the largest wind energy conference in North America. This year, over 5,000 attendees and 300 exhibitors participated.

The Port's goal as an exhibitor is to make contact with wind energy developers, manufacturers, freight forwarders and suppliers, and promote the Port's handling services. Port staff members Valerie Harris, Manager of Business Development, and Marie Wise, Communications/Public Affairs Manager, managed the Port's trade show booth and met with current and potential wind energy and steel customers. The Port's booth featured a self-running presentation that told the "story" of what happens to wind turbine components as they pass through the Port.

The Port continues to handle a growing volume of wind turbine components. Currently, six vessels carrying wind tower sections are scheduled to be unloaded through the end of 2006.
