Transportation Connections

The Port of Longview is strategically located near river, highway and railroad transportation connections.

River

Located just 66 miles from the Pacific Ocean on the deep-draft Columbia River, the Port is the first full-service operating port with major transportation connections. Transit time from the Columbia River Lightship to the Port of Longview averages six hours.

The Columbia River is a strategic trade corridor for the nation and the region's link to world markets. It is the second largest grain exporting river channel in the world and the exit point for cargo originating from over 40 states.

The Columbia River is maintained at a depth of 43 feet by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Today, newer and larger vessels traveling the shipping channel require a deeper draft in order to fully load with cargo.

Road

Interstate 5 is the major highway connection to and from the Port of Longview. Traveling distances range from 120 miles to/from Seattle, WA, and 40 miles to/from Portland, OR.

Our congestion-free roadways make efficient cargo movements possible through Longview’s industrial area to major North/South and West/East interstate routes.

Rail

From on-dock rail service to dedicated lines serving the Port, Port of Longview is on the right track.

The 1.5 mile Industrial Rail Corridor allows trains bound for the Port to arrive without long waits or interrupting vehicular traffic. Miles of track and switch engines at the Port make railcar transloading, ship-to rail and rail-to-ship options possible at the Port of Longview

The Port of Longview is served by both Class 1 railroads Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway and Union Pacific.
