Waterfront Recreation

Life jacket loaner board

Loaner Board

In 2010 the Port partnered with the local Safe Kids Coalition, Home Depot and Cowlitz County to provide Life Jacket Loaner boards at major swimming locations in the area.

Local lakes and rivers are extremely dangerous for recreational swimming and everyone should use a floatation device. The boards encourage children to use a lifejacket from the board and return to the board when they’re done swimming for the next child to use. The Port is a proud sponsor of the program!

Port supported boat launches

Castle Rock Launch SignAt the Port of Longview, our mission statement includes Enhancing Waterfront Recreation opportunities for the citizens of the Port district. Security measures implemented following September 11th ended all recreational waterfront access at the Port. Therefore, by supporting local boat launches, we have been able to restore recreational waterfront access that was lost on the docks while maintaining our commitment to our mission statement.

As a business built on the water, the Port understands the need for immediate riverfront access for recreation, commerce and emergency response.

Loaner Board

The Port of Longview Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to contribute $220,000 toward the design and construction of the first engineered boat launch in the northern area of the Port district.

Located just south of the Castle Rock High School, the launch was dedicated in June 2010.
