State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA)

The State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) Process

The SEPA provides a way to identify possible environmental impacts that may result from governmental decisions.
These decisions may be related to issuing permits for private projects, constructing public facilities, or adopting regulations, policies or plans.

Information provided during the SEPA review process is intended to ensure that environmental protection and preservation are considered by both state and local agencies in reviewing permit applications. It gives local governments the authority to both review and mitigate potential environmental impacts.
